Principal's Welcome

My name is Fran Luke and it is my great privilege to be the Principal of Belgrave South Primary School as of July 16th 2007. This is a very special community that demonstrates daily its vision to ‘Educate, Encourage and Enrich’ the lives and skills of each student with ‘Excellence, Enthusiasm and Equity’.

I have been involved in education in a wide range of settings including Primary, Secondary and Tertiary, for over thirty years. I remain highly enthusiastic and motivated to come to school every day because I genuinely enjoy being in a school environment. I believe the core ingredient of a successful school is the development of relationships between all members of the community. At Belgrave South Primary we have a ‘no blame, no shame’ policy and an agreed culture that sets high expectations for all members of the community. All staff, parents and students are expected to demonstrate excellence, enthusiasm and equity in all that they do at the school. All adult community members are encouraged to build positive relationships with students whilst assisting them to strive for excellence and to take responsibility for their actions.

It is my continual wish that all children would find their school experience a truly positive and memorable one. As educators, we must empower children to actively seek out learning opportunities and to proactively make strong choices in life. It is the choices we make, not the chances we take, that determines our destiny.

Schools are dynamic places and Belgrave South Primary is certainly no exception. I am continually impressed by the energy and enthusiasm that is evident amongst the active parent groups and the staff team. Each year the Staxafun Fete is a tribute to the many people involved in the planning and management of this annual event. It is wonderful to participate in such a memorable community day. The school is abuzz with happy chatter and excited reunions of former parents, students and staff, busy parents and staff work together to organize activities and children enthusiastically assist on stalls or enjoy the many activities that are available, some of them free. Each year, the significant amount of money raised supports the purchase of additional resources for the students but this monetary gain is outweighed every year by the tremendous display of community spirit and friendship. The day highlights the important role that Belgrave South Primary School has as a focal point in the community.

In 2008, the school participated in two major processes. The staff demonstrated a commitment to state wide criteria and the school was subsequently accredited as having a Performance and Development Culture. The whole community was involved in a school self evaluation and as a result, a Strategic Plan for 2009-2012 was identified with clear goals and strategies for improvement. It is my role to lead the school, as a place of educational excellence, as it has been over the last 100 years. I look forward to working with all members of the community to create exemplary learning opportunities that will equip our students to be confident, committed and capable life long learners and workers.
